The ongoing armed conflict in Ukraine will end only after the return of Crimea and Donbas regions under control of the Kiev authorities, President Petro Poroshenko said Thursday.
The war will end when Ukraine regains Donbas and Crimea," Poroshenko said in an interview with Ukraine's STB television channel.
The Ukrainian president added that combat operations in the conflict zone would be carried out "for as long as it is necessary."
Crimea seceded from Ukraine and reunified with Russia in March 2014 following a referendum, in which more than 96 percent of the peninsula's population voted to rejoin Russia.

Kiev forces increase shellings in eastern Ukraine after Poroshenko's interview...
ReplyDeleteUkrainian forces based in the Opytnoye village have opened fire on the territory of the embattled Donetsk airport more than 140 times over the past 24 hours, the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic military spokesman Eduard Basurin said on Friday.
"The area of the Donetsk airport and [neighboring] Volvo-Center has come under major artillery and mortar shelling," Basurin was quoted by the Donetsk news agency as saying.
Shellings from 120 mm artillery system, 120 mm and 82 mm mortars have been registered, he said.
The Kiev forces have increased activity following an interview of President Petro Poroshenko with the Ukrainian STB TV channel on Thursday in which he said that the war would end when Kiev regained Donbas and Crimea.
"This speech became a signal to the Ukrainian troops to increase the shellings," Basurin said.
Earlier on Friday, the DPR’s defense ministry said Kiev forces had violated the ceasefire regime in the republic more than 50 times over the past 24 hours. One militia member was killed and another one was seriously injured.

ReplyDeleteΤην προειδοποίηση ότι ο πόλεμος στην Ουκρανία θα τελειώσει μόνο όταν το Κίεβο πάρει πίσω το Ντονμπάς και την Κριμαία, απηύθυνε ο πρόεδρος της Ουκρανίας, Πέτρο Ποροσένκο.
«Ο πόλεμος θα τελειώσει μόνο όταν η Ουκρανία ανακτήσει τον έλεγχο του Ντονμπάς και της Κριμαίας. Θα πάρει όσο χρόνο χρειαστεί. Η εδαφική ακεραιότητα της χώρας πρέπει να είναι η υπ’ αριθμόν ένα προτεραιότητα. Θα χρησιμοποιήσουμε κάθε δυνατό τρόπο. Θα είμαστε ανυποχώρητοι σε αυτό το θέμα» είπε στο ουκρανικό τηλεοπτικό κανάλι STB ο Πέτρο Ποροσένκο.
Να σημειωθεί ότι στην Κριμαία πραγματοποιήθηκε δημοψήφισμα για την επανένωση με τη Ρωσία στις 16 Μαρτίου, 2014. Με προσέλευση ρεκόρ στο 80%, η συντριπτική πλειοψηφία της Κριμαίας και των κατοίκων της Σεβαστούπολης (96,7% και 95,6%, αντίστοιχα) ψήφισε υπέρ της αποχώρησης από την Ουκρανία και της ένταξης στη Ρωσία.
Μετά από την έγκριση της Συνθήκης της Κριμαίας και την επανένωση της Σεβαστούπολης με τη Ρωσία από το ρωσικό κοινοβούλιο, ο Ρώσος πρόεδρος, Βλαντιμίρ Πούτιν στις 21 Μαρτίου του 2014 υπέγραψε τον ομοσπονδιακό νόμο για την εισδοχή δύο νέων συστατικών οντοτήτων στη Ρωσική Ομοσπονδία.
Παρά τα απολύτως πειστικά αποτελέσματα του δημοψηφίσματος, το Κίεβο έχει αρνηθεί να αναγνωρίσει την Κριμαία ως μέρος της Ρωσίας.
