Russia on Monday presented what it said was new proof to show that the missile that brought down a passenger jet over East Ukraine was not fired from territory controlled by pro-Russian separatists.
The news comes following the presentation of a report by the Dutch Safety Board in October 2015 into the downing of Malaysia Airlines MH17 an incident which killed all 298 passengers on board.
Russia's radar system in the region where the tragedy happened did not detect any flying objects near Malaysia Airlines MH17 in the moments before the crash, Russia's Aerospace Force Commander Andrei Koban told the media on Monday.
If the plane had been brought down by a missile fired from an area in the east of the crash zone, it would have shown up on Russian radars, Koban said.
A Dutch report into the incident and the Russian authorities agree that the most probable cause of the plane's downing was due to a Russian-made Buk missile.
The Dutch report said that the projectile was fired from an area held by pro-Russian separatists, while Russia's defense concern Almaz-Antey _ which manufactures the Buk _ has said the missile was launched from territory controlled by the Ukrainian side.
Flight MH17 was traveling with 298 people on board, including 196 Dutch, 27 Australians, 44 Malaysians and one New Zealander, among other nationalities, when it was brought down in July 2014.

- He added that he had proof that Ukrainian forces used anti-aircraft defense systems in the zone where the incident took place, suggesting that it could have been used on the plane as it was en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur.
