Trump could see detente between Russia, Nato: Putin aide

US President-elect Donald Trump could bring about a "detente" between Russia and NATO, easing the tensions on Europe's Eastern edge, where intergovernmental military alliance is amassing forces near the Russian border, a Kremlin spokesman told Associated Press on Friday.

Dmitry Peskov was quoted as saying Russia sees "NATO’s muscles ... getting bigger and bigger and closer and closer to Russian borders."

Conversely, in Europe the conservative billionaire's "America first" approach has many worried he may cut US commitments to NATO just as it mounts its biggest military build-up since the end of the Cold War to counter a more assertive Russia.
