Hijackers who seized a passenger plane Friday carrying 118 people in Libya have 'surrendered, been searched and taken in custody," Malta's Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said.
After more than three hours sitting on the airport tarmac, all of the passengers and crew have been released.
Shortly before their surrender, the hijackers had asked for political asylum in Malta, Libya's foreign minister said.
