Kurdish militant group Kurdistan Freedom Hawks (TAK) said on Sunday that it carried out twin bombings killed 38 people near an Istanbul football stadium the night before, according to several reports.
TAK is an off-shoot of the illegal Kurdistan Worker's Party (PKK), which the government had earlier said was likely behind the bombs.
"Signs point to PKK," Deputy Prime Minister Numan Kurtulmus said before TAK claimed the attacks. "Once more, we are sincerely calling on the world to stop exploiting [terrorist organizations] now that we are all fighting against terrorism."
A car bomb detonated Saturday night outside the home stadium of football giants Besiktas after a Super Lig match against Bursaspor, and less than a minute later a suicide attacker blew himself up near a group of police at a nearby park.
