'We do not anticipate further UN action' against Israel, US official says

"We do not anticipate any further UN action," a senior US State Department official said Tuesday in a briefing offering a preview to Secretary of State John Kerry's upcoming address on Middle East peace.

US Secretary of State John Kerry will deliver the address Wednesday in which he will lay out "a comprehensive vision" on resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the State Department said.

The address comes days after the first resolution by the United Nations Security Council in more than 38 years to condemn Israel over its settlement policy was passed 14-0, with the Israel's key ally the US abstaining.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu lashed out at President Barack Obama and vowed not to abide by the "shameful" motion.

The State Department official, who was not named, said in a conference call that "in light of both the vote that took place at the UN last week and disturbing trends on the ground that, as we have said many times now, are rapidly eroding prospects for a two-state solution, the Secretary will give a speech tomorrow that provides context for where things stand in the effort to make peace, reflects directly and candidly on some of the most significant challenges to those efforts, and lays out a path forward that shows that making peace remains possible if the parties are willing to make difficult choices."
