Tunisia, Germany agree on repatriation of 1,500 illegal immigrants

Tunisia and Germany have agreed on Friday to repatriate 1,500 Tunisian immigrants illegally settled in Germany.

The agreement was announced during a conference attended by Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who made an official visit to Tunisia as head of a high-level delegation.

President Caid Essebsi described the deal as "satisfactory" without affecting sovereignty of the two countries, and it is an agreement similar to the one signed between Tunisia and Italy.

"The visit of Angela Merkel shows a profound change in the relationships between the two countries...a change that crowns a fruitful cooperation and a series of mutual visits," said Caid Essebsi.

For her part, Merkel announced that the German contribution to the economic development of Tunisia will be increased by 15.8 million US dollars.

She also invited Tunisia to attend the G20 summit held on July in German city of Hamburg.
