Pakistan summons Indian envoy after six civilians died in cross-border firing

Pakistan on Friday summoned the Indian high commissioner and strongly condemned the unprovoked ceasefire violations by the Indian forces, which killed six civilians and injured 26 others, the Foreign Ministry said.

A Foreign Ministry statement said that Indian Border Security Forces fired into Charwa Sector, Bini Sulariyan village, on Sept. 21, resulting in the deaths of six civilians, including four females, and the injuries of 26 others, including 15 females and five children.
 

"Many of the affected are seriously injured and the casualties are likely to rise," the statement said.

"The deliberate targeting of civilians is indeed deplorable and contrary to human dignity and international human rights and humanitarian laws," Pakistan's acting Foreign Secretary Aitzaz Ahmed told the Indian envoy.

He urged that the Indian side to permit the UN military observer group in India and Pakistan to play its mandated role as per the UN Security Council resolutions.

In view of latest escalation of tension, senior Pakistan and Indian military officials Friday spoke to discuss ways to avoid civilian casualties.
