Modern Aircraft Deployed in Electronic Warfare Against Terrorists in Syria

Russia's most modern reconnaissance aircraft dubbed Il-22PP has been sighted in Russia's military base in Hmeimem, the Arabic-language service of Sputnik news agency reported.

The Il-22PP has been updated on the bases of Il-18 aircraft with the aim of identifying and jamming the electronic warfare systems.

The Il-22PP aircraft is capable of jamming any radio and satellite equipment.

• In a relevant development in July, the Russian media outlets reported that the Syrian Army was using an anti-drone electronic warfare system that might also be mounted on any type military vehicle.

Rossiyskaya Gazeta daily reported that the Syrian army's anti-aircraft units are equipped with a new model of electronic cannon that can be used for jamming remote-controlled drones.

The daily added that the electronic system can be mounted on any military vehicle and jams the control waves of the drones.

The Russian paper also added that the new model of the electronic jamming system is equipped with a number of antennas.
