Ο Έντουαρντ Σνόουντεν, ο άνθρωπος πίσω από τις
αποκαλύψεις για τις παρακολουθήσεις εκατομμυρίων πολιτών από την NSA,
απάντησε ζωντανά σε ερωτήσεις αναγνωστών στη βρετανική εφημερίδα
Guardian. Ακολουθούν τα σημαντικότερα συμπεράσματα της συζήτησης.
1. Είναι ελάχιστες οι πληροφορίες που αφορούν σε ιδιώτες και στις οποίες οι μυστικές υπηρεσίες δεν μπορούν να έχουν πρόσβαση.
Αν κάποιος αναλυτής των αμερικανικών μυστικών υπηρεσιών (NSA, FBI,
CIA DIA κλπ.) έχει πρόσβαση στις βάσεις δεδομένων του SIGINT (SIGnals
INTelligence - συλλογή και ανάλυση σημάτων επικοινωνίας) μπορεί να μάθει
ό,τι χρειάζεται. Αριθμό τηλεφώνου, ηλεκτρονικές διευθύνσεις, ταυτότητα
χρήστη, IPs, το περιεχόμενο του ηλεκτρονικού ταχυδρομείου, τα πάντα. Οι
περιορισμοί σε αυτό είναι μόνο πολιτικοί και όχι τεχνικοί και μπορούν να
αλλάξουν ανά πάσα στιγμή.
2. Ο Σνόουντεν περίμενε πριν δώσει στη δημοσιότητα τα έγγραφα, ελπίζοντας ότι ο Ομπάμα θα έφερνε την αλλαγή.
Οι προεκλογικές υποσχέσεις του Ομπάμα και η εκλογή του με έκαναν να
πιστέψω ότι θα διόρθωνε τα προβλήματα, όπως είχε υποσχεθεί. Πολλοί
Αμερικανοί αισθάνονταν το ίδιο. Δυστυχώς αμέσως μετά την ανάληψη της
εξουσίας από τον ίδιο, έκλεισε την πόρτα στην έρευνα για συστηματικές
παραβιάσεις των νόμων, επέκτεινε βάναυσα προγράμματα και δεν έθεσε τέλος
στις παραβιάσεις των ανθρωπίνων δικαιωμάτων στο Γκουαντάναμο, όπου
άνθρωποι ακόμη κρατούνται χωρίς να τους έχουν απαγγελθεί κατηγορίες.
3. Φοβάται ότι οι Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες θα προσπαθήσουν να τον κάνουν να σιωπήσει με κάθε τρόπο.
Αυτό που μπορώ να πω τώρα είναι ότι η αμερικανική κυβέρνηση δεν θα
μπορέσει να το καλύψει όλο αυτό, φυλακίζοντας ή δολοφονώντας με. Η
αλήθεια έρχεται και κανείς δεν μπορεί να τη σταματήσει.
4. Ο Σνόουντεν είναι βέβαιος ότι έχει την κοινή γνώμη στο πλευρό του.
Αν η κυβέρνηση Ομπάμα απαντήσει με ακόμη σκληρότερο τρόπο εναντίον
μου, να είναι σίγουρη ότι θα βρει απέναντί της μία εξίσου σκληρή κοινή
γνώμη.
5. Δεν του προκαλεί εντύπωση η αντίδραση των μεγάλων μέσων ενημέρωσης.
Αρχικά η στάση τους με ενθάρρυνε. Δυστυχώς, τα μεγάλα μέσα
ενημέρωσης πλέον ενδιαφέρονται περισσότερο για το τί είχα πει όταν ήμουν
17, ή για το πώς μοιάζει η κοπέλα μου, από το μεγαλύτερο πρόγραμμα
παρακολούθησης στην Ιστορία.
6. Η κρυπτογράφηση προσφέρει προστασία.
Ένα σωστά υλοποιημένο σύστημα κρυπτογράφησης είναι κάτι στο οποίο
μπορείς να βασιστείς. Δυστυχώς όμως, η ασφάλεια στα άκρα των συστημάτων
αυτών που βρίσκονται οι χρήστες έχει αδυναμίες και η NSA βρίσκει εύκολα
τρόπους να την υπερκεράσει.
7. Δεν τον απασχολεί που ο Ντικ Τσέινι τον αποκάλεσε προδότη.
Το να σε αποκαλέσει προδότη ο Ντικ Τσέινι είναι η μεγαλύτερη τιμή
για έναν Αμερικανό και όσο πιο πανικόβλητοι εμφανίζονται άνθρωποι σαν
εκείνον, τόσο καλύτερα για εμάς. Εάν διδασκόταν ένα μάθημα για το πώς να
γίνουμε οι πολίτες που φοβάται ο Τσέινι, θα είχα τελειώσει το λύκειο.
8. Δεν είναι κατάσκοπος της Κίνας.
Η αντίδραση των μέσων ενημέρωσης στοχεύει στο να αποσπάσει την
προσοχή από τις ενέργειες της αμερικανικής κυβέρνησης. Αναρωτηθείτε: Αν
ήμουν κατάσκοπος της Κίνας, δεν θα είχα πετάξει κατευθείαν για το
Πεκίνο;

General Keith Alexander said it in testimony to the US House of Representatives intelligence committee Tuesday, in an attempt to defend the programs that have been under fire.
Alexander and other intelligence officials have made several trips to Capitol Hill recently to testify on the value of the sensitive NSA surveillance programs. The programs have been criticized following the public disclosure of them by Edward Snowden, a former NSA contractor.
Snowden’s leaks have ignited a political debate over the balance between privacy rights and national security. La NSA et le FBI défendent Prism.....
ReplyDeleteLes programmes américains de surveillance des communications ont permis de déjouer "plus de 50 actes terroristes potentiels" depuis les attentats du 11-Septembre, a affirmé, mardi 18 juin, le chef de l'Agence de sécurité nationale américaine (NSA), Keith Alexander. "Ces programmes sont extrêmement précieux pour protéger notre nation et assurer la sécurité de nos alliés", a insisté le général, devant des élus de la commission du renseignement de la Chambre des représentants.
"Ces dernières années, les informations recueillies à partir de ces programmes ont permis au gouvernement américain de faire des avancées capitales pour aider à prévenir plus de 50 actes terroristes potentiels dans plus de 20 pays à travers le monde", a-t-il souligné. Parmi ces actes, "au moins dix concernaient des menaces sur le sol américain", selon lui.
L'audition de M. Prism : la NSA espionnait l'Union européenne...
ReplyDeleteLes services de renseignement américains espionnaient dans le cadre du programme de surveillance Prism plusieurs bureaux de l'Union européenne, dont ils avaient réussi à pénétrer les réseaux informatiques, montrent des documents secrets dont l'hebdomadaire allemand Der Spiegel a pris connaissance.
Le magazine allemand cite dans un article publié samedi 29 juin un document classé "strictement confidentiel" de la National Security Agency (NSA) daté de septembre 2010, que l'informaticien Edward Snowden a emporté dans sa fuite après avoir dévoilé l'existence de Prism et que les journalistes du Spiegel ont pu lire en partie.
Selon ce document, la NSA a implanté du matériel d'écoute dans les bureaux de l'Union européenne (UE) à Washington et aux Nations unies et était en mesure non seulement d'écouter les conversations téléphoniques, mais aussi d'accéder aux documents et aux courriels des diplomates européens, qualifiés de "cibles à attaquer" dans le document.
D'après le Spiegel, l'agence de renseignement américaine surveillait aussi les systèmes de communication de l'immeuble Justus Lipsius, qui héberge le Conseil européen à Bruxelles et où les gouvernements de l'UE disposent de bureaux à partir desquels ils peuvent passer des appels sécurisés. Il y a "plus de cinq ans", écrit Der Spiegel, les experts en sécurité de l'UE avaient découvert un système d'écoutes sur le réseau téléphonique et internet du bâtiment Justus-Lipsius, qui remontait jusqu'au quartier général de l'OTAN en banlieue de Bruxelles.

Edward Snowden se trouve depuis presque une semaine dans la zone de transit de l'aéroport de Moscou, en attendant la réponse de l'Equateur à sa demande d'asile politique. Cet ancien collaborateur de l'Agence nationale de sécurité (NSA) est recherché par les Etats-Unis pour avoir divulgué des informations explosives sur de vastes programmes américains de surveillance des communications.
Le président équatorien, Rafael Correa, a annoncé samedi s'être entretenu avec le vice-président américain Joe Biden du cas de l'ancien agent du renseignement américain, recherché pour espionnage par Washington. "Nous avons parlé de l'affaire Snowden et il m'a transmis de manière très courtoise la requête des Etats-Unis de bien vouloir rejeter la demande d'asile", a déclaré le président Correa lors d'une conférence de presse, précisant que M. Biden l'avait joint au téléphone vendredi.
Plus tôt, le président équatorien a affirmé qu'Edward Snowden a révélé le plus grand cas d'espionnage "dans l'histoire de l'humanité", déplorant que la polémique soit centrée sur la demande d'asile présentée par ce dernier à Quito. Whistleblower Edward Snowden has provided proof that Global technology giant Microsoft has been working closely with US intelligence agencies, including the National Security Agency and the FBI, to make sure all of their customers can be spied on, according to the Guardian newspaper.
The newspaper says that the documents provided by Snowden show that Microsoft helped the NSA bypass the company's encryptions to intercept web chats on Outlook.com.
It also reported that Microsoft worked with the FBI this year to allow the NSA easier access to its cloud storage service SkyDrive, and that after Microsoft's purchase of Skype, the NSA accessed a new capability that tripled the number of video calls it collected via Prism.
Microsoft denied the allegations in a statement released on Thursday.
"We only ever comply with orders about specific accounts or identifiers, and we would not respond to the kind of blanket orders discussed in the press over the past few weeks," the statement said.
"Microsoft does not provide any government with blanket or direct access to SkyDrive, Outlook.com, Skype or any Microsoft product."
The company has previously said that during a six-month period in 2012 it handed over records on about 32,000 user accounts, but can not say more because of bans imposed by the US government which prohibits all technology companies from talking about their activities.

Snowden to respond to questions by deputies of European parliament....
ReplyDeleteFormer US intelligence contractor Edward Snowden is set to make a pre-recorded video appearance at the European Parliament’s civil liberties committee.
The meeting will be live-streamed but the statement will be recorded answers of our questions, which we will send in advance, said parliamentarian from Belgium Mark Tarabella.
Tarabella’s spokesman noted that a live stream of Snowden himself would risk revealing his location.
Details of the video appearance have not been clarified yet, but the two sides agree that this will be recorded answers to questions timely handed over to Snowden.
