Ο Αμερικανός υπουργός Εξωτερικών Τζον Κέρι δήλωσε σήμερα μετά τη
συνάντησή του στο Παρίσι με τους ομολόγους του από τη Σαουδική Αραβία,
την Αίγυπτο, το Κατάρ και τα Ηνωμένα Αραβικά Εμιράτα, ότι όλοι συμφωνούν
πως “η χρήση χημικών όπλων από τον Άσαντ, τα οποία σκότωσαν εκατοντάδες
αθώους, ξεπερνά τη διεθνή κόκκινη γραμμή".
Σε συνέντευξη Τύπου, ύστερα από τη συνάντησή του με άραβες υπουργούς Εξωτερικών και παρουσία του ομολόγου του του Κατάρ Χαλέντ αλ-Ατίγια, ο Κέρι τόνισε ότι οι άραβες υπουργοί κλίνουν προς τη συνυπογραφή της ανακοίνωσης της G20, την οποία έχουν ήδη υπογράψει 12 χώρες, η οποία ζητεί ισχυρή διεθνή απάντηση μετά την επίθεση με χημικά όπλα, την 21η Αυγούστου κοντά στη Δαμασκό.
Ο Κέρι σημείωσε επίσης πως οι ΗΠΑ δεν αποκλείουν το ενδεχόμενο να ζητήσουν ψηφοφορία στο Συμβούλιο Ασφαλείας του ΟΗΕ ώστε να υπάρξει μια απόφαση για τη Συρία, μόλις οι επιθεωρητές ολοκληρώσουν την έκθεσή τους, αλλά τόνισε ότι ο πρόεδρος Μπαράκ Ομπάμα δεν έχει λάβει ακόμα απόφαση.
Ο Γάλλος πρόεδρος Φρανσουά Ολάντ, ο οποίος δέχεται πιέσεις στη χώρα του, αλλά και από ευρωπαίους εταίρους, να υπάρξει εντολή του ΟΗΕ πριν από οποιαδήποτε επέμβαση στη Συρία, δήλωσε χθες ότι θα ζητήσει μια απόφαση του Συμβουλίου Ασφαλείας παρά τα προηγούμενα βέτο της Ρωσίας και της Κίνας.
"Όσον αφορά τα σχόλια του προέδρου Ολάντ σχετικά με τον ΟΗΕ, ο πρόεδρος Ομπάμα και εγώ ακούμε προσεκτικά όλους τους φίλους μας. Καμία απόφαση δεν έχει ληφθεί ακόμα από τον πρόεδρο", τόνισε ο Κέρι.
Εν τω μεταξύ Ισραηλινός αξιωματούχος δήλωσε σήμερα ότι οι ΗΠΑ θα ενημερώσουν το Ισραήλ ώρες πριν από μια επίθεση στη Συρία.
Το Ισραήλ σκοπεύει να αναπτύξει αντιπυραυλικά συστήματα κι επιπλέον στρατεύματα, καθώς φοβάται για αντίποινα, αν ο Αμερικανός πρόεδρος Μπαράκ Ομπάμα δώσει το πράσινο φως για την επίθεση.
Ισραηλινοί αξιωματούχοι έχουν επίσης εκφράσει φόβους ότι στην περίπτωση που οι ΗΠΑ δεν εξαπολύσουν επίθεση εναντίον της Συρίας θα ενθαρρυνθεί η Τεχεράνη να συνεχίσει να αγνοεί τις διεθνείς εκκλήσεις για εγκατάλειψη του πυρηνικού της προγράμματος.

Syria in response to an alleged chemical attack.
After talks with Arab League ministers in Paris on Sunday, Kerry said they had agreed that Bashar al-Assad's regime had crossed a "global red line" with the August 21 attack in Damascus suburbs.
"All of us agree, not one dissenter, that Assad's deplorable use of chemical weapons... crosses an international global red line," Kerry said.
Kerry said a number of Arab countries were willing to sign a statement agreed by 12 countries of the G20 summit earlier this week that called for a reaction to the alleged attack, and that they would make announcements in the next 24 hours.
"Today we discussed the possible and necessary measures that can be taken," he said.
He said Saudi Arabia - which participated in the talks along with officials from the Arab League and eight other Arab countries - was among those who had signed on.
"They have supported the strike and they have supported taking action," Kerry said.

ReplyDeleteEl secretario de Estado de EE UU, John Kerry, ha ofrecido una tenue cuerda de salvación al presidente sirio, Bachar el Asad, para evitar el ataque que prepara el Gobierno de Barack Obama. Preguntado durante una rueda de prensa celebrada tras una entrevista con el ministro de Exteriores británico, William Hague, si el régimen de Damasco tenía alguna manera de convencer a EE UU para que cancelase sus planes, Kerry dijo: "Claro que sí. Podría entregar todas y cada una de sus armas químicas a la comunidad internacional a lo largo de la semana". El secretario de Estado, no obstante, dejó claro lo poco probable que ve que El Asad ceda en este punto. "No lo quiere hacer y no se puede hacer", ha declarado.
Kerry ha afirmado esta mañana que la intervención militar en Siria que propone su Ejecutivo "no es una guerra". "Nuestra respuesta será increíblemente pequeña y limitada", ha prometido el canciller estadounidense. "Seremos capaces de hacer responsable a Bachar el Asad sin tener tropas sobre el terreno". El mensaje del secretario de Estado pretende enfriar los temores de los miembros del Congreso de EE UU, que deben votar su aprobación a un ataque al país árabe. "La solución a los problemas en Siria es política, no militar", ha afirmado. "No nos hacemos ilusiones al respecto". Pero el secretario de Estado ha señalado que para lograr una solución política "hay que llegar ahí".
La visita de Kerry no ha servido para apartar al Gobierno de David Cameron del rumbo que le marcó la Cámara de los Comunes al negarse a una intervención militar en Siria. "La postura del Parlamento británico es bien sabida", ha afirmado Hague, "y este Gobierno respeta esa posición". Londres ha afirmado que, mientras "apoya totalmente" los esfuerzos diplomáticos de EE UU y que la relación "especial" entre los dos países no ha cambiado, la postura del Gobierno de Cameron es impulsar el proceso de negociaciones de paz entre el régimen de Asad y sus opositores que se lleva a cabo en Ginebra.
"El Gobierno sirio siempre ha estado abierto a las negociaciones de paz", ha declarado en Moscú el ministro de Exteriores ruso, Serguéi Lávrov. El Gobierno de Vladímir Putin ha vuelto a escenificar su rol como principal sostén internacional del régimen de Bachar el Asad. Tras una entrevista con el canciller sirio este lunes en Moscú, Lávrov ha vuelto a afirmar que una intervención militar podría suponer "una explosión del terrorismo" en Oriente Medio.
De opinión parecida es la alta comisionada de la ONU para los derechos humanos, Navi Pillay, que ha afirmado este lunes en Ginebra que una intervención militar, sea directa o sea a través del suministro de armas a las partes en conflicto, podría encender un conflicto "de alcance regional". "No hay una salida fácil ni evidente", ha señalado la jurista sudafricana, "pero los Estados, junto con las Naciones Unidas, deben trabajar juntos para llevar a las partes beligerantes a la mesa de negociaciones y detener el derramamiento de sangre".

ReplyDelete“Sure, he could turn over every single bit of his chemical weapons to the international community in the next week, turn it over, all of it without delay and allow the full and total accounting, but he isn’t about to do it and it can’t be done,” he said.
Kerry was asked about comments that Assad made to CBS anchorman Charlie Rose in which Assad said there was no conclusive evidence about who is to blame for the chemical weapons attack.
Asked about Assad’s denial, Kerry said, “I just gave you real evidence.”
“Evidence that as a former prosecutor in the United States I could take into a courtroom and get admitted,” the secretary added. Kerry said he had personally tried people who had been sent to prison for life for less than what Assad is accused of doing.

In Siria è in corso una «catastrofe umanitaria globale», lo ha detto il segretario di Stato Usa John Kerry in conferenza stampa a Londra. Per Kerry, «Assad potrebbe evitare un attacco consegnando le sue armi chimiche alla comunità internazionale entro la settimana prossima», lo ha detto il segretario di Stato Usa John Kerry, aggiungendo tuttavia che il presidente siriano «non sembra sul punto di farlo». «La soluzione politica resta la soluzione ultima per la fine del conflitto in Siria», che non si può concludere con un’azione militare. Moskau will internationale Kontrolle der Chemiewaffen...
ReplyDeleteRusslands Außenminister Lawrow fordert die syrische Regierung auf, Chemiewaffen unter internationale Aufsicht zu stellen und zu vernichten. Zuvor hatte US-Außenminister Kerry für Verwirrung gesorgt.
Russland hat die syrische Regierung aufgefordert, ihre Chemiewaffen unter internationale Kontrolle zu stellen und sie zu vernichten. Außenminister Sergej Lawrow forderte eine "schnelle und positive" Antwort von der Regierung in Damaskus. Moskau erhoffe sich von der Maßnahme, dass ein möglicher Militärschlag gegen das Land damit verhindert werden könne, hieß es. Die UN-Vetomacht rufe die Führung in Damaskus auch zu einem vollwertigen Beitritt zur Chemiewaffenkonvention auf, sagte Außenminister Sergej Lawrow am Montag der Agentur Interfax zufolge in Moskau.
Zuvor hatte es Verwirrung um ein vermutetes Ultimatum der US-Regierung an das Regime von Baschar al-Assad gegeben: Sollte die syrische Führung binnen einer Woche alle Chemiewaffen an die internationale Gemeinschaft übergeben, werde es keine Intervention geben. Das hatte US-Außenminister John Kerry in London überraschend verkündet. Allerdings fügte Kerry hinzu: "Das wird er (Assad) nicht tun, das wird nicht geschehen."
