Σύμφωνα με το Europa Press, τα αυγά δεν πέτυχαν τον Barroso ή κάποιον από τους συμμετέχοντες στη συζήτηση, μεταξύ των οποίων ήταν ο Βέλγος ΥΠΕΞ Didier Reynders, ωστόσο άφησαν σημάδια στο σημείο που καθόντουσαν.
Οι δύο νέοι οδηγήθηκαν εκτός αίθουσας και συνεχίστηκε η συζήτηση.
Το Debating Europe είναι μια σειρά συναντήσεων με τους πολίτες σε όλες τις χώρες της ΕΕ, ενόψει των Ευρωεκλογών του 2014.
Σύμφωνα με πληροφορίες το συμβάν έγινε μετά την πρώτη ώρα της συζήτησης, όταν οι συντονιστές έδωσαν το λόγο στους δύο νέους, ένα αγόρι και ένα κορίτσι.
Το αγόρι είπε στον Barroso επικαλούμενο μια έρευνα του Ευρωβαρομέτρου, ότι «95% των πολιτών σας απορρίπτουν τη λιτότητα και δεν εισακούγονται». Το κορίτσι τον κατηγόρησε και του είπε πως είναι υπεύθυνος για την «Ευρώπη Φρούριο» που στοίχησε τη ζωή σε μετανάστες.
Ένας εκ των συντονιστών τους διέκοψε και τους υπενθύμισε ότι έπρεπε να κάνουν ερωτήσεις και όχι δηλώσεις, αλλά ο Barroso ζήτησε να συνεχίσουν. «Οι Ευρωπαίοι αγρότες χάνουν λεφτά για κάθε αυγό που πωλούν εξαιτίας της πολιτικής του ελεύθερου εμπορίου», είπε ο νεαρός και όταν τους πήραν τα μικρόφωνα, άρχισαν να εκτοξεύουν αυγά.

Barroso pelted with eggs in Belgian debate....
ReplyDeleteCommission President José Manuel Barroso was pelted with eggs by youths who blamed him for austerity policies and the death of migrants in Lampedusa, during a debate on Europe's future in Liège, Belgium.
According to Europa Press, the eggs did not reach Barroso or any of the other participants to the debate, which included Belgian Foreign Minister Didier Reynders, but left marks on the scene where they were seated. The two youngsters were taken out of the room and the debate reportedly continued normally.
“Debating Europe” is a series of meeting with citizens in all EU countries, held during the 2013 “Year of citizens” and ahead of the 2014 European elections.
The incident reportedly took place following a first hour of debate, when the moderators gave the floor to the two youngsters in question.
The first one, a boy, told Barroso, citing an Eurobarometer survey, that "95% of your citizens reject austerity policies and are not heard." The second, a girl, accused him of being "responsible" for the "Fortress Europe" caused the deaths of immigrants.
One of the moderators interrupted them to remind them that they were supposed to ask questions, but Barroso asked them to continue. "European farmers lose money for each egg they sell because of your policies of free trade," proclaimed then the first of the young. And when the microphones were removed from them, both threw the eggs.
Barroso was recently booed at Lampedusa, the small Italian island near the coast of which some 270 immigrants drowned in a shipwreck two weeks ago. But one of the most spectacular demonstration against him in fact took place in his own country Portugal, where citizens accused him of making the poor pay for the mistakes of the bankers.
