Aid reaches Yarmouk after 6 months

Aid had finally been delivered to the besieged Yarmouk refugee camp in the Syrian capital Damascus for the first time since July.

The camp, which was once home to 60,000 Palestinian refugees who fled persecution by Israel has been cut off from aid for months due to clashes between Bashar al-Assad's regime and the Free Syrian Army.

There were reports of people starving to death, while others were resorting to eating wild vegetation and street cats to survive.


The number of people still left in Yarmouk is believed to be between 10,000 to 20,000. 
Recently, the Syrian government proposed a ceasefire with rebels following growing international pressure to allow aid in.

It is not at the moment clear how much and what type of aid has been allowed in.
