Μια εικόνα των πολιτικών και οικονομικών παρασκηνίων πίσω από τις
βίαιες διαδηλώσεις στην Ουκρανία δίνει σε άρθρο της η βρετανική
Guardian. «Ο,τι γράφεται και λέγεται για τις διαδηλώσεις στους δρόμους του Κιέβου δεν έχουν καμία απολύτως σχέση με την πραγματικότητα», σημειώνει ο αρθρογράφος Σέουμας Μίλνε.
Και εξηγεί: «Οπως και στην Αίγυπτο, έτσι και στην περίπτωση της Ουκρανίας, ο λαός προσπαθεί να απαλλαγεί από έναν δημοκρατικά εκλεγμένο πρόεδρο. Αλλά αυτοί που συρρέουν στους δρόμους της πρωτεύουσας, δεν ενδιαφέρονται και πολύ για την δημοκρατία και τους θεσμούς της, καθώς στον σκληρό πυρήνα των διαδηλωτών δρουν ακροδεξιοί εθνικιστές».
Και εξηγεί: «Οπως και στην Αίγυπτο, έτσι και στην περίπτωση της Ουκρανίας, ο λαός προσπαθεί να απαλλαγεί από έναν δημοκρατικά εκλεγμένο πρόεδρο. Αυτή τη στιγμή στην καρδιά της κρίσης, κατά τον αρθρογράφο,
βρίσκονται οι φασίστες, οι ντόπιοι ολιγάρχες και οι «ψαλιδισμένες» από
το Κρεμλίνο γεωπολιτικές βλέψεις της Δύσης, δηλαδή της Ευρωπαΐκής
Ενωσης.
«Οι Ουκρανοί πολίτες είναι διχασμένοι σχετικά με το ενδεχόμενο
ένωσης τους με την Ε.Ε. και η διαμάχη αφορά στα δυο άκρα της χώρας: το
ρωσόφωνο νοτιοανατολικό τμήμα της Ουκρανίας και το έντονα εθνικιστικό
και ουκρανόφωνο δυτικό», σημειώνει το δημοσίευμα της βρετανικής εφημερίδας, επισημαίνοντας πως «και
ο πρόεδρος Γιανουκόβιτς φέρει ένα μέρος της ευθύνης, καθώς μετά την
ανάληψη της προεδρίας το 2010, άρχισε να συγκεντρώνει, εκτός από την
εξουσία, και τον πλούτο στα χέρια των παιδιών του και των βασικών
συνεργατών του, εκνευρίζοντας τους παραδοσιακούς ολιγάρχες της χώρας,
που δεν ανέχονται άλλο να βλέπουν την «οικογένεια» να καρπώνεται όλες
τις χάρες και τα προνόμια του προέδρου».
Κερδισμένοι από την κατάσταση αυτή είναι νεαροί επιχειρηματίες (ως
επί το πλείστον, φίλοι και «κολλητοί» του γιου του Γιανουκόβιτς, Ολεκσάντρ)
οι οποίοι κατέχουν όλα τα οικονομικής φύσεως χαρτοφυλάκια και το
πανίσχυρο υπουργείο Εσωτερικών, αλλά και θέσεις κλειδιά στα δικαστήρια
και την εφορία.
Κατά συνέπεια, παραδοσιακοί ολιγάρχες όπως ο, πλουσιότερος Ουκρανός, Ρινάτ Αχμέτοφ και ο Ντμίτρο Φιρτάς,
άρχισαν να «κλωτσάνε». Ειδικά ο Αχμέτοφ δεν επιθυμεί με τίποτα την
τελωνειακή ένωση με τη Ρωσία καθώς έχει στην ιδιοκτησία του πολλές
βιομηχανίες μετάλλων σε ευρωπαïκές χώρες, επομένως οι εξαγωγές προς την
Ε.Ε. είναι ζωτικής σημασίας για την επιχειρηματική του επιβίωση. «Γι' αυτό και το νέο κύμα των διαδηλώσεων χρηματοδοτείται από ολιγάρχες», υποστηρίζει ο Βλαντίμιρ Καράσιοφ, διευθυντής του Ινστιτούτου Παγκόσμιας Στρατηγικής του Κιέβου.
Χαρακτηριστική ήταν η ανακοίνωση της εταιρείας SKM, ιδιοκτησίας του
Αχμέτοφ, η οποία δημοσιοποιήθηκε τα ξημερώματα της 25ης Ιανουαρίου, κι
όπου η χρήση βίας χαρακτηρίζεται ως «απαράδεκτη» και γίνεται έκκληση «για επίλυση της κρίσης, η οποία έχει ήδη προκαλέσει τον θάνατο αρκετών ανθρώπων, με ειρηνικό τρόπο».
Και μπορεί τελικά οι ολιγάρχες της χώρας να κατάφεραν να πείσουν
τον Γιανουκόβιτς να διαπραγματευτεί με την αντιπολίτευση, αλλά το
πολιτικό μέλλον της χώρας εξακολουθεί να είναι θαμπό κι εξαιρετικά
αβέβαιο. «Είναι αμφίβολο το κατά πόσο η υποχώρηση του Γιανουκόβιτς
θα κατευνάσει τα πλήθη. Ο κίνδυνος μέχρι και για έναν εμφύλιο πόλεμο στο
μέλλον είναι ακόμη ορατός, αλλά άλλο τόσο ξεκάθαροι είναι οι τρόποι
αποφυγής του: ο σχηματισμός μιας κυβέρνησης συνασπισμού, ένα δημοψήφισμα
για την Ε.Ε., η μετάβαση από ένα αυστηρά προεδρικό σε ένα πιο
κοινοβουλευτικό σύστημα και η μεγαλύτερη αυτονομία των ουκρανικών
περιφερειών», καταλήγει το άρθρο της Guardian.

Ukrainian opposition is morally and politically bankrupt’...
ReplyDeleteThe Ukrainian opposition's aim is to take over the government, but after that they have no idea what to do and their effort will lead to failure, Nebosja Malic from the R. Archibald Reiss Institute for Serbian Studies told RT.
RT: The opposition wants everyone freed unconditionally. Why should rioters who injured or even killed policemen be released, when these actions typically land you in prison for decades? Is it realistic?
Nebosja Malic: The opposition keeps moving the goal posts. Obviously they want the government to unconditionally surrender on all of their demands whatever those demands might be. Today they are requesting one thing, two days before they were demanding something else and the week before something else altogether. If they are given this by the parliament they will demand even more.
They’ve made it obvious that only unconditional surrender will do. Releasing these people would send a dangerous message to everybody in Ukraine that you can get away with murder literally if you happen to lend in power. And you get there by blackmailing the government, by occupying the town squares, by resorting to violence. This is not going to end well if these demands are appeased. Appeasement usually doesn’t end well anyway.
RT: President Yanukovich has shown he's willing to negotiate and compromise. Why isn't the opposition making similar efforts to try and end the violence?
NM: They are like a dog chasing cars. They have no idea what to do when they catch it. Their whole gambit is to take over the government. Short of taking over the government their effort will be a failure. They need to capture the government to be successful. So this is the marching orders they were given by people financing them. Anything short of dismantling the government and hanging it over to them would be a failure; this is why they just cannot compromise even if they wanted to.
The offer to Yatsenyuk to take over the prime ministership the other day, I thought at first it was just a sign of weakness, but it might be a brilliant gambit to expose the bankruptcy of the opposition because here take exactly what you demand and see what the response is. If the response is “no – we want even more.” So they have declared themselves completely morally and politically bankrupt and yet the government tries to appease them, which is further definite sign of weakness.
RT: The EU Commission chief said he wants to see a political solution in Ukraine, US Secretary of State John Kerry said the same in a phone call with the opposition. Do you think the West will try to push the opposition towards dialogue now?
NM: I sincerely doubt it. The European Union wants to see a client regime in Kiev. I think they want to see a government that would obey them in every respect like what they have in Serbia currently. I think that’s the ultimate goal and if opposition coalition is willing enable to get into power using any means necessarily and making any demands it sees fit, and the government is weak enough to let them, then I don’t see why the European Union would essentially stop them. Russia: Kerry’s Meeting with Ukrainian Opposition “Circus” ....
ReplyDeleteRussia slammed a planned meeting between US Secretary of State John Kerry and Ukrainian opposition leaders as “circus”.
"It's also necessary to involve Verka Serdyuchka in the talks," Russia's Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin tweeted on Friday, referring to a popular Ukrainian drag queen character.
“Her/his authoritative opinion should be heard by the White House and taken into account,” he said sarcastically.
Moscow's sharp criticism came after a senior State Department official confirmed that Kerry will have an opportunity to have his first meeting with the major figures of the opposition on the sidelines of a security conference in Munich, Germany on Saturday.
“There's the question of whether they can move on to form a government of national unity. So they're coming to Munich in the middle of this negotiating process on what the political compact might look like going forward,” the US official said on Thursday, AFP reported.
Among those slated to hold talks with the top US diplomat are Democratic Alliance for Reform (UDAR) leader and world boxing champion Vitali Klitschko, and Fatherland Party leader Arseniy Yatsenyuk.

Ukrainian President’s Reform Offers Inadequate – Kerry....
ReplyDeleteWASHINGTON, January 31 (RIA Novosti) – US Secretary of State John Kerry said Friday that concessions by Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych to defuse the standoff with anti-government protesters were not enough to resolve the crisis.
“The offers … have not yet reached an adequate level of reform and an adequate level of sharing of the future,” Kerry told reporters in Berlin following a meeting with German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
Kerry was traveling to an international security conference in Munich, where he planned to meet with members of the Ukrainian opposition. He said he would tell them that their efforts have the “full support” of US President Barack Obama and “the American people.”

Victoria Nuland gaffe: Angela Merkel condemns EU insult...
ReplyDeleteGermany's Angela Merkel has said a US official's apparent insult of the EU's efforts to mediate in the Ukraine crisis is "totally unacceptable".
Victoria Nuland has apologised after she referred disparagingly to the EU's role during a conversation said to be with the US ambassador to Ukraine.
A recording of the exchange was posted online, with the US hinting at Russia's involvement in bugging and leaking it.
The EU and US are involved in talks to end months of unrest in Ukraine.

"Je pense que les Américains n'auraient pas dû s'en mêler et auraient dû nous laisser faire."
Herman Van Rompuy a ainsi réagi aux déclarations peu diplomatiques de la secrétaire d'Etat adjointe américaine pour l'Europe, Victoria Nuland. "Fuck the EU", a-t-elle déclaré lors d'une conversation téléphonique révélée dans la presse.
Selon elle, les Etats-Unis constitueraient un meilleur médiateur que l'Union européenne pour mettre à la crise politique qui secoue l'Ukraine.
Herman Van Rompuy a précisé qu'il fallait remettre cette déclaration dans son contexte, "mais cela reste inacceptable de la part d'un partenaire". Les Américains n'auraient pas dû se mêler à cette affaire et auraient dû laisser faire les Européens, a-t-il ajouté. "Je pense que cela aurait été plus sensé. Plus il y a de médiateurs, plus le problème devient complexe. Si un médiateur peut y faire du bon travail, c'est bien l'Union européenne."

Russia denies role in Nuland call leak which revealed US role in Ukraine....
ReplyDeleteRussian officials on Friday denied they were behind the Internet posting of an embarrassing phone call between two top US diplomats discussing a response to the political crisis in conflicted Ukraine. Dmitry Loskutov said that he was browsing the Internet when he saw the video, in which the top US diplomat for Europe, Victoria Nuland, disparages the European Union on his "friend's feed in a social network".
