Report: Netanyahu visited Jordan for talks with King Abdullah

Two leaders discuss peace talks; Army Radio reports Netanyahu told Kerry Israel intends on keeping Beit El settlement bloc in peace deal.

Prime Minister Binyamin held an unannounced meeting in Amman with Jordan's King Abdullah II on Thursday, Jordan's official Petra news agency reported.

According to the report, the meeting focused on the current Israeli-Palestinian negotiations.
The Prime Minister's Office would not comment on the reports.

According to Petra, the meeting followed similar meetings Abdullah had with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and US Secretary of State John Kerry to coordinate and consult with the parties "in order to achieve tangible progress that meets the aspirations of the Palestinian people, protecting at the same time Jordan's interests."
Jordan is extremely interested in the type of security arrangements to be set up along the Jordan River following an agreement and the establishment of a Palestinian state.
Netanyahu has on a number of occasions paid unannounced visits to Jordan to meet with Abdullah since becoming prime minister again in 2009.

  • The newest diplomatic mission comes amid an Army Radio report Thursday that Netanyahu is insisting on keeping the Beit El settlement bloc as a part of ongoing peace negotiations with the Palestinians.

  • Army Radio quoted a source familiar with the negotiations as saying Netanyahu, in his talks with Kerry, cited a biblical connection to the Beit El area, noting its depiction in the Book of Genesis as the place where Jacob dreamt about a ladder to heaven.
Netanyahu's spokesman declined to comment on the report .
That would leave 13 percent of the West Bank in Israeli hands, according to Army Radio. There was no immediate comment from  Abbas.
Netanyahu has also offered to buy some of the settlement land from the Palestinians, according to the report, but they rejected such a deal.

Jordan’s Foreign Minister Nasser Jawda said on Sunday that Jordan is against recognizing the so-called Israel as a Jewish state and Jordan will not be an alternative home for Palestinians, Alray Palestinian news agency reported.

Speaking during a parliament session which dealt with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry’s peace plan, Jawda reiterated that Jordan will not be an "alternative home for anybody."

"There are no formulas or U.S. documents written to solve the Arab-Israeli conflict, but a frame work agreement," he stressed, noting that "it is up to Palestinians and Israelis to singe it or not."

"Jordan is integrally involved in and has big role in the Palestinian-Israeli talks," he added.

Jawda stressed that Jordan is not absent from the peace negotiations and will not accept any solution that contradicts with the country’s interests and national security. "Jordan will not negotiate on behalf of Palestinians regarding their envisioned state’s borders with Israel," Judeh added........http://www.almanar.com.lb/english/adetails.php?eid=133714&cid=23&fromval=1
