Moscow sends note to Kiev urging to send humanitarian aid to east Ukraine regions

"It was emphasized that the Russian side is ready to provide the population in these regions with the required assistance"....

The Russian Foreign Ministry has sent its Ukrainian counterparts a note "which points out to the Ukrainian side that Russia has been receiving urgent requests from individuals and organizations based in the conflict zone in the eastern Ukrainian regions, where hostilities led to human casualties and multiple injuries, asking to provide immediate humanitarian aid, primarily medications and medicinal drugs," the ministry said on its website.
"Given the emergency nature of the current situation, the Russian side hopes for the swiftest possible reply from the Ukrainian side to this request," the Russian Foreign Ministry said, Interfax reports.

"It was emphasized that the Russian side is ready to provide the population in these regions with the required assistance and therefore proposes to the Ukrainian side that necessary measures be taken within the shortest possible period to ensure the immediate delivery of Russian humanitarian aid to the regions affected by the conflict," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"Specific itineraries and transportation conditions for such humanitarian aid, the note says, could be agreed upon on a routine basis between the relevant Russian and Ukrainian government departments," the statement said.

  2. Calm returns after battle as divided east Ukraine city awaits fate...

(Reuters) - Uneasy calm returned to the streets of Donetsk on Wednesday after the biggest battle of a pro-Russian separatist uprising in eastern Ukraine, a conflict transformed by the landslide election of a pro-European leader who has vowed to crush the revolt.

Government forces killed dozens of rebel fighters on Monday and Tuesday in an assault to retake the airport, which the rebels had seized the morning after Ukrainians overwhelmingly elected Petro Poroshenko as president.

Pro-Moscow gunmen have declared the city of a million people capital of an independent Donetsk People's Republic.

After the government assault - the first time Kiev has unleashed its full military force against the fighters after weeks of restraint - morgues were filled with bodies of rebel gunmen. Some were missing limbs in a sign of the massive firepower used against them.

The separatist authorities say as many as 50 died, including a truckload of wounded fighters blasted apart as they were driven away from the battlefield. The government said it suffered no losses in the operation, which saw its aircraft strafe the airport and paratroops land to reclaim it.......................http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/05/28/us-ukraine-crisis-idUSKBN0E812X20140528?feedType=RSS&feedName=worldNews
