Bolivia invites Russia to G77

The Russian delegation is expected to come the Group of 77 plus China summit on June 14-15...

Bolivia, as the presiding country of the Group of 77 since the start of 2014, proposed to invite Russia to participate in this international pool of developing nations.

“Russia’s joining to the major international organization acting within the UN would considerably strengthen its influence,” said the Bolivian President Evo Morales. If Russia joins the coalition it can be called Group of 77 plus China and Russia, he believes.

Involving Russia into the work of G77 was Bolivia’s aspiration, Morales said in the city of Santa Cruz that will host the Group of 77 plus China summit on June 14-15. The UN role in resolving global issues, migration, climate and trade as well as future South-South and South-North cooperation are on the forum’s agenda. The Russian delegation is expected to come.

The Group of 77 was set up by ministers of the developing economies of Asia, Africa and Latin America in 1964. Named after the initial number of members, it now assembles 133 countries.
