Modern takes on a Welsh dragon and a Celtic knot – iconic symbols of Wales – feature on the logo for the Alliance’s September Wales Summit which was unveiled in the margins of the NATO foreign ministers meeting on Wednesday (25 June 2014) by NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen and British Foreign Secretary William Hague in the presence of David Jones, the British Secretary of State for Wales. “This is a vibrant tapestry that presents strong symbols of Wales in a modern way,” said the Secretary General.

The logo also features a castle and the Newport Transport Bridge alongside the official emblem of the Alliance, a white and blue compass on a blue background. Mr. Fogh Rasmussen said the symbols draw on the past and look to the future.
  • “The Celtic knot represents the four ancient elements of earth, water, air and fire. To me it also represents the unbreakable bond that binds the NATO Allies together and it shows how connected we are with partners across the world,” he said.
The Secretary General said that at the Wales Summit, NATO leaders will strengthen these bonds. The summit will take place on 4-5 September and will be one of the largest gatherings of world leaders the United Kingdom has ever hosted.
