Poroshenko speaks for stopping fire in Ukraine’s eastern regions

Ukraine’s newly elected president Petro Poroshenko said on Sunday it was necessary to cease fire in the eastern regions of the country within a week....

“We must stop fire this week. Each day when people are dying, each day when Ukraine is paying such a high price is unacceptable to me. That is why we must first of all resume the work of the state border to guarantee security to each citizen of Ukraine who lives in Donbass [a coal-bearing area in Ukraine’s east, incorporates the Donetsk region], regardless of political views he or she might have,” the press service of the Ukrainian head of state quoted Poroshenko as saying at the first meeting of the contact group on the implementation of the peace plan in Ukraine’s southeastern regions.

• He stressed that the parties must work on the implementation of agreements reached at a meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Francois Hollande and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Normandy.

The meeting of the contact group was also attended by Ukrainian Ambassador to Berlin Pavel Klimkin, special representative of the OSCE secretary general Heidi Tagliavini and Russian Ambassador to Kiev Mikhail Zurabov. Poroshenko suggested that the contact group should meet every day to coordinate further actions aiming at the implementation of the peace settlement plan.

Poroshenko: "Enfrentamientos al este de Ucrania deben cesar "esta" semana" 

El presidente de Ucrania, Piort Poroshenko, dijo este domingo que los combates en el este de ese país deben cesar al final de la semana entrante. "Debemos poner fin a los combates esta semana", dijo Poroshenko en una declaración publicada en su sitio oficial, tras una ronda de conversaciones con el embajador de Moscú en Kiev y con un enviado de la Organización para la Seguridad y la Cooperación en Europa (OSCE), con sede en Viena. Poroshenko, tras ser investido este sábado anunció un plan de "paz" para el "arreglo" del conflicto en el este del país, sin embargo, adelantó que no permitirá la federalización del país y recuperará Crimea.
Poroshenko adelantó que viajará en los próximos días al este del país "en son de paz", aunque no se pronunció sobre una posible suspensión de los bombardeos en Donetsk y Lugank. Nur einen Tag nach seinem Amtsantritt hat der ukrainische Präsident Petro Poroschenko eine Waffenruhe für den Osten des Landes angekündigt. "Wir sollten in dieser Woche das Feuer einstellen", sagte Poroschenko nach Angaben der Agentur Interfax bei einer Sitzung einer Kontaktgruppe für die Umsetzung seines angekündigten Friedensplans. "Jeder Tag, an dem Menschen sterben, jeder Tag, an dem die Ukraine solch einen hohen Preis bezahlt, ist unannehmbar", wird Poroschenko zitiert.

Tägliche Treffen der Kontaktgruppe

Zu der Dreier-Kontaktgruppe gehören der ukrainische Botschafter in Deutschland, Pawel Klimkin, die Schweizer Diplomatin Heidi Tagliavini als Vertreterin der Organisation für Sicherheit und Zusammenarbeit in Europa (OSZE) und der russische Diplomat Michail Surabow. Poroschenko schlug vor, dass die Kontaktgruppe nun täglich zusammenkommen solle, um Ergebnisse zu beraten.

Nach Poroschenkos Vorschlag sollten nun zuerst die Grenztruppen im Krisengebiet wieder ihre Arbeit aufnehmen, "damit die Sicherheit eines jeden Staatsbürgers der Ukraine gewährleistet ist, der in der Region Donbass lebt - unabhängig davon, welche politischen Sympathien er hegt", sagte der Staatschef.
