US should mind its own problems, not meddle in others’ affairs (Russian FM) / Egypt urges U.S. restraint over Missouri unrest

The United States should take care of its own internal problems instead of intervening in other countries’ internal affairs on the pretext of protecting democracy, the Russian Foreign Ministry’s human rights, democracy and rule of law commissioner, Konstantin Dolgov, said in a commentary on the situation in the city of Ferguson, Missouri, the US.

“The tragic events in Ferguson that followed shortly after a police gunned down an unarmed 18-year-year-old Afro-American Michael Brown are clear evidence of the high degree of tensions in US society, which remains split along racial lines,” Dolgov said.

He believes that the United States “should take care of large-scale internal problems and take effective measures to resolve them.”

“This is a more constructive way corresponding the requirements and realities of the 21st century, interventions in the internal affairs of other countries and replacing disfavoured regimes on the false pretext of protecting democracy and human rights - a practice inherited from last century," Dolgov said.

  • Egypt urges U.S. restraint over Missouri unrest....

Egypt urged on Tuesday U.S. authorities to exercise restraint in dealing with racially charged demonstrations in Ferguson, Missouri - echoing language Washington used to caution Egypt as it cracked down on Islamist protesters last year, Reuters news agency reported.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry’s statement on the unrest in Ferguson read similarly to one issued by U.S. President Barack Obama’s administration in July 2013, when the White House “urged security forces to exercise maximum restraint and caution” in dealing with demonstrations by Mursi supporters.

It was issued “ following the escalation of protests” in Ferguson, unleashed by the fatal shooting of an unarmed black teenager by a white policeman on Aug. 9.

  • It is unusual for Egypt to criticise such a major donor, and it was not immediately clear why the government would have taken such a step.
  • Relations between Washington and Cairo were strained after Egyptian security forces killed hundreds of Muslim Brotherhood supporters following the army’s ousting of Islamist President Mohammed Mursi in July 2013.

Western allies have voiced concern about the democratic credentials of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, the army chief who toppled Mursi..............................http://www.ellanodikhs.net/2014/08/egypt-urges-us-restraint-over-missouri.html

  1. Protesters back on the streets in US suburb.... Demonstrators say they will persist until white police officer is charged over killing of unarmed black teenager.....

FERGUSON, MISSOURI – Protesters in the US suburb of Ferguson have taken to the streets again after more than a week of racially-charged rioting since the killing of an unarmed black teenager by a white policeman.

The police have struggled to cope with a combination of peaceful protestors and looters who have smashed windows and torched buildings in a spate of violence that has raised fresh questions about US race relations almost six years after Americans elected their first black president.

"It’s a game of chess between us and the government. We make our move, now it’s their move," protester Charnicholas Walker, 38, told Al Jazeera.

"There will be 5,000 of us out tonight. The only reason it won’t be 50,000 is because people are scared from seeing the tear gas on social media."

Police said they came under heavy gunfire overnight on Monday and arrested 31 people despite the deployment of Missouri National Guard troops and the lifting of a curfew to allow demonstrators more freedom to protest peacefully.

The violence erupted just hours after US President Barack Obama had called for calm..............http://www.aljazeera.com/news/americas/2014/08/protesters-back-streets-us-suburb-2014819222710740554.html

Amnesty International.
