EU Postpones Sanctions Against Russia, Hopes for De-escalation оf Ukrainian Crisis.

EU delayed the implementation of sanctions against Russia, hoping that long-term ceasefire in eastern Ukraine will be maintained, a EU diplomatic source told RIA Novosti.

“Of course, we know that much attention was paid to the fact that we decided to delay implementation of new sanctions. We want to give Russia a chance to show its willingness to be honest and to show that it aims for de-escalation of situation in Ukraine. We want the ceasefire to be real and long-term,” the source said.

    BRUSSELS, September 11. /ITAR-TASS/. The European Union will enact a new package of sanctions against Russia starting from September 12, but they may be lifted stage-by-stage depending on developments in eastern Ukraine, a European diplomatic source in Brussels told ITAR-TASS on Thursday.

    The source said a resolution of the European Council was expected on September 12. The enactment of sanctions was aimed to demonstrate European Union’s unity, the source added.
