Russia welcomes UN Security Council newcomers in search for global solutions

Russia hopes that new non-permanent members of the United Nations Security Council will actively seek solutions to current challenges and threats, the Foreign Ministry said in comments on the election of five non-permanent members — Angola, Venezuela, Spain, Malaysia and New Zealand — for 2015-2016.

“Election of these countries to the Security Council has justified their active stance in international affairs and participation in United Nations activity, as well as their high prestige among UN member-states,” the ministry said.

Moscow was hopeful that “participating in the work of the UN main bodies, these countries will facilitate stepping up the UN's central role in world affairs and its effectiveness and prestige in implementing the global agenda, and join the search for answers on a broad range of issues to counteract challenges and threats,” it added.
