Treaty on Armenia’s joining Eurasian Economic Union ready (deputy PM)

A treaty on Armenia’s joining the Eurasian Economic Union is on the table and will be signed at a CIS summit in the Belarusian capital Minsk on October 10, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov said at President Vladimir Putin’s meeting with the government on Friday.
“The treaty stipulating the Republic of Armenia’s joining the Eurasian Economic Union has already been worked out,” Shuvalov said.

Armenian government on Thursday approved a draft document on joining the Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union.
“Upon joining the Treaty, Armenia becomes a member of the Eurasian Economic Union,” the document says.

• From this moment, acts of the Eurasian Economic Union will be applied on the territory of Armenia, according to the document.

Eurasian Economic Union to expand through new member states

Commenting on the treaty’s signing by President Putin, Chairman of the State Duma Committee for CIS Affairs and Eurasian Integration Leonid Slutsky said the EEU project was moving ahead confidently.
Both post-Soviet republics like Armenia and Kyrgyzstan and other countries are showing active interest in the Eurasian integration project, the lawmaker said.
“The Eurasian Economic Union will be a powerful regional economic union, which will inevitably expand,” Slutsky said.
“Apart from completely new regional economic architecture, the EEU will certainly become a powerful barrier on the way of those who are today trying to build unipolar world,” Slutsky said.
The treaty’s ratification is “an historic event opening a new world epoch,” the lawmaker said.
“I hope that the treaty’s ratifications in Belarus and Kazakhstan will be over before a summit of the heads of state in Minsk on October 9,” Slutsky said.

Vladimir Putin signs law on ratification of Eurasian Economic Union treaty

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday signed the law on ratification of the Eurasian Economic Union treaty.
“I have signed a federal law on ratification of the Eurasian Economic Union treaty,” he told the government. “This is a major milestone in our joint work on integration with our closest partners and allies,” he said.
The move follows lower house ratification on September 26 and the upper house ratification on October 1.
The Eurasian Economic Union, which envisages free movement of goods, services, capital and workforce and is based on the Customs Union of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan, will become operational from January 1, 2015.
