“I can give a clear answer on this issue: this is not under discussion. We’ll never ask Moscow for financial aid,” Varoufakis told Die Zeit when asked if Greece was planning to ask Moscow for funds.
Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov earlier said that Moscow would explore the possibility of providing financial aid to the Greek government if Athens requested for it.
Greece owes over $270 billion to the International Monetary Fund, the European Union and the European Central Bank.
Last week Varoufakis announced that the Greek government would not seek to extend the country's bailout program and would not cooperate with the troika of international creditors. The new government is planning to renegotiate the bailout conditions with the troika and find new sources of investment to restore the county’s economic growth.
