Judge Rafecas dismisses AMIA cover-up probe against President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner

Federal Judge Daniel Rafecas has decided there are no elements to move forward with an investigation on an alleged political operation led by President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner and top government officials to cover-up the role played by Iran in the bombing of the Argentine Israelite Mutual Association building (AMIA) Jewish community center.

Federal Prosecutor Gerardo Pollicita is expected to appeal the magistrate’s decision.
Days before he was found dead in his apartment in the Buenos Aires City neighbourhood of Puerto Madero, AMIA special prosecutor Alberto Nisman accused President Kirchner, Foreign Minster Héctor Timerman, lawmaker Andrés “Cuervo” Larroque and social leaders Luis D’Elía and Fernando Esteche of conducting secret negotiations to cover-up Iran’s involvenment in the 1994 that claimed the lives of 85 people and left hundreds injured.

Under the deal, Iranian oil would be exchanged for Argentina’s grain, easing the country’s chronic energy deficit.

After Nisman’s mysterious death, Pollicita picked up the case that has been now dismissed by Judge Rafecas.

  2. Argentine judge throws out cover-up charge against president...

(Reuters) - An Argentine judge dismissed the accusation made by state prosecutors that President Cristina Fernandez conspired to cover up Iran's alleged role in a deadly 1994 bombing, the country's court system said in a statement on Thursday.

The judge ruled he would "discontinue" the case which had been revived earlier this month after its initial prosecutor, Alberto Nisman, was found shot dead on Jan. 18 in mysterious circumstances that sparked political turmoil and the revamping of the country's spy agency.

"The evidence gathered far from meets the minimal standard," said a statement from the judiciary branch's CIJ information service.

Prosecutor Gerardo Pollicita renewed Nisman's investigation into whether Fernandez impeded the probe into the bombing in order to put through grains-for-oil deal with Tehran.......................http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/02/26/us-argentina-prosecutor-idUSKBN0LU1BX20150226?feedType=RSS&feedName=worldNews
