Death toll from Nepalese earthquake exceeds 2,500

Death toll from the devastating earthquake in Nepal has exceeded 2,500, the Kantipur newspaper said on its website on Sunday, citing police data.
The death toll in the capital city of Kathmandu nears 800.

Earlier in the day, the Nepalese police spokesman told TASS local police had information about 6,239 people hurt in the disaster.

As tremors in the Nepalese capital of Kathmandu are continuing, "there is no electricity in the city. Mobile communications are available," the police spokesman said.

A devastating 7.9 magnitude earthquake rocked Nepal on Saturday. As many as 48 aftershocks with a magnitude ranging from 3.5 to 6.9 have been registered following the eqrathquake. The latest magnitude 4.1 aftershock was registered at 18:41 local time /16:11 Moscow time/. Its epicenter was located 20 kilometers southeast of Kathmandu at a depth of ten kilometres.

Earth tremors were felt in India’s eastern and northeastern states, where 62 people were killed and more than 250 injured, in Myanmar and Bangaldesh.

    At least 3,218 people are now known to have died in a massive earthquake which hit Nepal on Saturday, say officials.

    Rameshwor Dangal, head of Nepal's disaster management agency, said another 6,500 people had been injured.

    The death toll caused by the 7.9 magnitude earthquake in Nepal may reach some 8,000 people as relief operation continues following the devastating natural calamity, The Himalayan Times daily reported on Monday.

    According to the most recent reports from AFP and Reuters, the confirmed number of deaths in Nepal already reached 3,218 and the number of injured exceeds 6,500. At least 90 people were killed as a result of the earthquake in India and China.

    A devastating 7.9 magnitude earthquake rocked Nepal on Saturday. As many as 48 aftershocks with a magnitude ranging from 3.5 to 6.9 have been registered following the earthquake.

    The latest magnitude 4.1 aftershock was registered at 18:41 local time (16:11 Moscow time). Its epicenter was located 20 kilometers (12.4 miles) southeast of Kathmandu and at a depth of 10 kilometers (6.2 miles).

    Numerous countries sent their rescuers to help Nepal in relief operation, including Russia, which sent two Ilyushin Il-76 planes with rescuers and equipment.

    Le bilan précédent faisait état de plus de 2.000 victimes.

    Plus de 3.500 personnes ont trouvé la mort dans le puissant séisme qui a frappé le Népal le weekend dernier, selon un récent bilan annoncé par la télévision locale.

    Selon la chaîne Nepal 1, 3.585 personnes au total sont mortes dans le sinistre et plus de 6.500 autres ont été blessées.

    Un tremblement de terre de magnitude 7.9 a secoué samedi le Népal et une partie du nord de l'Inde, faisant plus de 2.000 morts.
