The Kremlin is closely studying the United States’ plans for deploying
missiles in Europe and can already say that such intentions fan world
tensions.
"This theme is being discussed. It is topical. Any steps fanning tensions would benefit no one’s interests," presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told the media on Monday. In this way he commented on British Foreign Minister Philip Hammond’s statement his country might host US missiles carrying nuclear warheads.
"Certainly, this theme as such can hardly contribute to enhancing the level of mutual trust and the balance of interests," Pskov said.
He added that Hammond’s statements lacked specifics.
"For this reason we keep monitoring this theme very closely," Peskov.
