South Korean President hopes resolving all issues with DPRK via 'trust'

South Korean President Park Geun-hye on Tuesday expressed hopes that the country can resolve all issues with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) based on inter-Korean trust following the agreement to defuse tensions on the Korean Peninsula.

Park's comments came after top-level military aides to the leaders of the two Koreas reached a six-point agreement during a 43-hour marathon dialogue at the truce village of Panmunjom.

No comment on the agreement from the DPRK has been available so far.

According to South Korean officials, Pyongyang expressed regrets over injured South Korean soldiers caused by landmines blast that happened on the southern section of the demilitarized zone (DMZ) on Aug. 4.

The incident escalated the inter-Korean tensions into a crisis that military forces of the two countries were put on the highest alert. The DPRK agreed to lift the order of its forces to enter a state war.

Seoul agreed to stop all loudspeaker broadcasts in border areas from noon Tuesday as far as abnormal situations are not unfolded. The DPRK had denounced it as a declaration of war.

To improve inter-Korean relations, South Korea and the DPRK will hold an inter-governmental dialogue in Seoul or Pyongyang at an earliest possible date, while holding a working-level Red Cross contact early next month to talk about the reunion of Korean families separated by the 1950-53 Korean War in late September.

President Park emphasized that it will be important for the two Koreas to smoothly push ahead with inter-Korean projects, agreed upon during the talks, with follow-up dialogues, which ease tensions and become an opportunity for peace and development on the peninsula.
