French foreign minister blames migrant influx in Europe on poverty and conflicts

Growing migrant influx in Europe has been triggered by poverty and conflicts, French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said on Wednesday at a ministerial conference of the 5+5 Dialogue, which brings together ten states of western Mediterranean, in Morocco’s Tangier.

The 5+5 Dialogue embraces five countries of southern Europe, namely Italy, Spain, Malta, Portugal and France, and five Maghreb countries, or Algeria, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco and Tunisia.

Fabius said to stop migrant flows to Europe it was necessary to address the problem of poverty and encourage economic growth in the region people were fleeing from.

He also spoke in favour of forming a government of national accord in Libya that would be able to take control of the situation in the country. In his words, it would tell positively on the situation with migrants and on overall stability in the region.
