Ukraine to Become Non-Permanent UN Security Council Member in 2016

Ukraine will be for two years a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, according to the result of a UN General Assembly vote.

Ukraine will serve two years from 2016 as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, following a UN General Assembly vote on Thursday.

Ukraine's Security Council membership was welcomed by 177 countries, while 14 countries abstained from the vote.


 Ukraine was the only candidate from the Eastern European Group.
