Iran to sign contracts on overhaul of foreign aircrafts

Iran is to sign a series of contracts with other countries to repair and maintain their planes inside the country, the head of Iran's National Space Center was quoted as saying by Tasnim news agency.

International contracts will be signed by the end of March, 2016 to overhaul and repair foreign planes inside the country, as Iran possesses the technical know-how to do maintenance, repair and overhaul, Manouchehr Manteqi said.

An annual sum of five billion US dollars is spent on aircraft overhaul and fundamental repairs in the Middle East, and Iran should make the most of such a lucrative industry in the region, Manteqi said.

According to the report, Iran has the "competitive advantage" in the aircraft maintenance market in the Middle East, given the low prices it charges.

Iran Air's Engineering and Maintenance Division is a major aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul services company in the region.

It offers a variety of maintenance services through its line and base maintenance, diversified shops, component supply and aircraft maintenance training.
