Israeli helicopters strike on Gaza militants facilities in response to rocket firing

Israeli army helicopters struck early on Wednesday with air-to-ground missiles military facilities that belong to militant groups in the Gaza Strip; no injuries or severe damages were reported, according to security officials in Gaza.

The security officials said helicopters hovered over the Gaza Strip and carried out three successive airstrikes on the Gaza Strip; the first was on a training camp belonging to the militant group called the Popular Resistance Committees in central Gaza Strip.

They added that the second and third airstrikes targeted two different training facilities that belong to the armed wing of Islamic Hamas movement in northwest Gaza city, adding that in the three airstrikes no injuries were reported.

The Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip were an immediate response to earlier rocket attack, which was fired from the blockaded coastal enclave into southern Israel. Israeli radio reported that the rocket landed at an empty area causing no damages.

No one claimed responsibility for the rocket attack; however, some minor militant groups active in the Gaza Strip, which oppose a truce with Israel, fire rockets into Israel from time to time and Israel usually retaliates with firing back.

On Aug. 26, Egypt brokered a truce between Israel and Gaza Hamas-led militants, ending 50 days of fighting between the two sides in the Gaza Strip, where around 2,200 Palestinians and 70 Israelis were killed and more than 11,000 injured.
