Turkey partially withdraws troops to ease tension with Baghdad. Readout of Vice President Biden’s Call with Prime Minister Davutoglu

Turkey has partially withdrawn some of its troops from a camp near Mosul after a bitter week-long dispute with Baghdad, which appealed to the United Nations to demand the unconditional and immediate withdrawal of Turkish forces from Iraqi territory, and re-positioned them near the Turkey-Iraq border.

The Arbil-based Rudaw TV channel reported that some troops, along with tanks and armored vehicles, had left the Bashiqa camp and were headed north.

Confirming the news reports, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu said on Monday that Turkey has taken necessary steps for a “new arrangement” of troops near Mosul and that the presence will continue for military training.................http://www.todayszaman.com/diplomacy_turkey-partially-withdraws-troops-to-ease-tension-with-baghdad_406910.html

"The Vice President spoke again today with Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu regarding Turkey’s troop deployments in northern Iraq. 

The Vice President welcomed reports of the withdrawal of Turkish troops out of Camp Bashiqa as an important step to de-escalate recent tensions.  

The Vice President reiterated that any foreign military presence in Iraq must be with the full consent of the Iraq government. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to Iraqi sovereignty and territorial integrity.  

The Vice President encouraged the Turkish government to continue its dialogue with Baghdad on additional measures to improve relations between Turkey and Iraq. 

The Vice President also reaffirmed the United States commitment to close cooperation with Iraq and Turkey in the fight against ISIL."
