China denies linkage to US military hacking case

A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson on Friday denied that two Chinese soldiers are linked to a U.S. military hacking case.

Spokesman Hong Lei told a routine press briefing that accusations against Chinese soldiers are groundless and "with ulterior motives."

"The Chinese government and armed forces are opposed to and have not been engaged in any forms of network hacking," Hong said.

According to a Canadian newspaper, "two Chinese military officers" were "co-conspirators" in a plot to steal U.S. military secrets. Chinese national Su Bin was involved in the case.

Hong urged the Canadian side to abide by relevant consular agreement between China and Canada to ensure Su's legal rights.

"The Chinese government has always paid high attention to safeguard legitimate rights and interests of Chinese citizens overseas," Hong said, adding China will continue to keep an eye on Su's case.
