East China Sea: More refitted Chinese warships to patrol disputed waters

China has been refitting five more warships into coast guard vessels for patrolling disputed waters, including those around the Japanese-administered Senkaku Islands in the East China Sea, a Hong Kong-based watchdog said Monday.

The Information Center for Human Rights and Democracy quoted sources as saying refitting work on three Jiangwei-class guided-missile frigates has been finished, while ongoing work on two Luda-class guided-missile destroyers will be completed within the year.

China Coast Guard vessels will be deployed not only near the Senkakus, which are known to China as Diaoyu, but also in waters near ?Vietnam? and ?North? Korea, the center said...
