Erdoğan continues to target professors, accuses them of ‘academic terrorism’

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has stepped up his criticism of a group of Turkish academics for their call to end violence in Turkey's Southeast, accusing them of being actors of what he called “academic terrorism.”

“Aren’t you raising students? How can you stand by those who became so nefarious that they threw bombs at a school on the day our little children get their report cards? How on earth you can be academics? In fact, those [academics] are actors of academic terrorism,” Erdoğan said on Sunday during a speech at the Kayseri Chamber of Commerce.

He was referring to an explosion at a primary school in the Bağlar district of Diyarbakır on Friday left five students injured on the day when elementary, middle and high school students receive their report cards. Reports blamed the attack on the terrorist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK),..
