’Search dog banished after interception of MİT trucks’

A gendarmerie dog that participated in a search of National Intelligence Organization (MİT) trucks in January 2014 for arms allegedly transferred to Syria might have been banished because of his and his trainer's role in the operation, according to a news report published on Friday.

A report in the Cumhuriyet daily cited a gendarmerie major who took part in the interception of the trucks and is currently in prison on charges of espionage and treason. Major Bekir Karataş, who was the head of the local gendarmerie intelligence department when the trucks were stopped in the southern province of Adana, said the search dog Vahim disappeared after the operation.

“Vahim reacted when searching the vehicles as though there were explosive devices there... They banished Vahim and his trainer on 'parallel structure' grounds. We don't know where the dog is," Karataş told a delegation of deputies from the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) led by deputy Chairman Veli Ağbaba who visited him and other jailed gendarmerie personnel in a military prison in İstanbul. The visit took place on Dec. 28, according to the report.......http://www.todayszaman.com/latest-news_search-dog-banished-after-interception-of-mi-t-trucks_408509.html
