Three of the wounded are reportedly Israeli citizens.
After the blast, several fire-fighting vehicles and ambulances were seen rushing towards the scene.
Security forces evacuated the area, while the street has been closed to traffic.
The explosion was in Istiklal Street, a wide boulevard closed to traffic that is lined with international stores and shopping centres.
A Reuters witness in the area saw police helicopters circling overhead and television footage showed people running from the area.
A car bomb tore through the capital Ankara earlier this month, killing 37 people.

ReplyDeleteFive people were killed and at least 20 others were injured in a suicide bomb attack on March 19 in central Istanbul, on the busy İstiklal Avenue in Taksim.
The attack happened on Balo Street in front of the local governor’s office of Beyoğlu, and a through investigation has been launched into the attack, Istanbul Gov. Vasip Şahin told reporters.
The pedestrian street was completely sealed off and police officers and ambulances were deployed to the area.

ReplyDelete20 Menschen seien bei der Explosion an der zentralen Einkaufsstraße Istiklal verletzt worden, teilte der Gouverneur von Istanbul nach einem Bericht des Senders CNN Türk mit.
Nach Angaben des israelischen Außenministeriums sind unter den Verletzten auch drei israelische Staatsbürger. Der Tatort wurde weiträumig abgeriegelt. Die Polizei war mit einem Großaufgebot am Ort.
Une explosion s'est produite ce samedi matin sur la grande rue piétonne d'Istiklal, dans la partie européenne d'Istanbul, ont rapporté les médias turcs. Dans un premier temps, l'origine de cette explosion a été inconnue mais très vite le gouverneur d'Istanbul et des médias turcs ont indiqué qu'il s'agissait d'un attentat suicide...
ReplyDeleteUn premier bilan en fin de matinée faisait état de 4 morts et d'une vingtaine de blessés. L'auteur de cette attaque a également été tué.
L'attaque s'est produite devant un centre commercial de cette rue fréquentée par des milliers de personnes chaque jour. Des images et des vidéos ont montré de nombreux corps à terre peu de temps après les faits. La rue Istiklal a été évacuée après l'attentat, ainsi qu'une bonne partie de la place Taksim située en amont de l'artère, ont constaté des journalistes de l'AFP. Un hélicoptère de la police surveillait à basse altitiude la zone, où de nombreux policiers armes à la main ont été positionnés.
