Poland: NATO agreed to place more troops on our territory

The Polish government hopes that the next summit of NATO will formally approve the decision to place more troops in the East of the country, reports the Wall Street Journal.

Deputy defense Minister of Poland Tomasz Shatkovsky said that the allies in the North Atlantic Alliance has already agreed in principle on the deployment of troops in the village of suwałki, near the Lithuanian border.

The number of troops is currently unknown. They will be based in the East of Poland on a rotational basis.

Shatkovsky has rejected the Russian objections against the deployment of NATO troops on its Western border, noting that these arguments since the 1990s, and they are intended for «internal use».

He added that the deployment of troops of the Alliance will understand Poland and the Baltic republics that they will not leave in case of aggression.
