Kremlin forecasts ‘month of intense contacts’ with Turkey

The Kremlin predicts a month of intense contacts with Turkey after the latest decision on resuming economic relations of Moscow and Ankara, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Friday.

"The government has been ordered to start contacts with the Turkish colleagues to discuss the process of a step-by-step lifting of restrictive measures introduced by the previous presidential decree. That’s why now there will be a month or more of rather intense contacts," Peskov said.

The Kremlin spokesman confirmed again that the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan may take place before the G20 summit in China in September.

"Indeed, we do not rule out that the heads of state may take a decision to meet before the G20 in China. I cannot say now where this will take place. But we do not rule out such an option that the meeting will be before the G20," he said.

When asked if the meeting of the two leaders could be held in Sochi this August, Peskov said "various options are possible." He reminded that the talks between the Russian and Turkish foreign ministers will begin in Sochi on Friday. "That’s why some patience is needed here," he added.
