The Supreme Commissioner of EU on foreign policy Federica Mogherini warned the Turkish authorities about the danger of steps that contradict the Constitution. She stated before the meeting of the foreign Ministers of the European Union, which will be attended by U.S. Secretary of state John Kerry.
«We need to protect the rule of law. Can’t be the excuse for the steps that detach Turkey from this principle. It is necessary to protect the legitimate democratic institutions. Today, my colleagues state that the system of checks and balances is important,» she said.
«It gives the impression of a prepared action. All the lists were ready and just waiting in the wings. I am extremely concerned about: this is exactly what we feared,» said he.
Note that Western countries welcomed the suppression of the rebellion as a victory for democracy in Turkey. Prior to this, the EU strongly supported the desire of Erdogan to limit the influence of the army on domestic policy, stating that its role of guarantor of the secular character of the country was incompatible with democratic principles and hinders the integration of Turkey into the EU.

Purge générale en Turquie après le putsch manqué de la nuit du vendredi 15 au samedi 16 juillet. Le Premier ministre turc, Binali Yildirim, a fait état, lundi 18 juillet, d'un total de 7 543 arrestations, dont 6 038 soldats, et annoncé le limogeage de près de 9 000 fonctionnaires......france24.com
