Ultimatum Ankara: visa – free regime, or cancel transactions on migrants from EU

Foreign Minister of Turkey Mevlut Cavusoglu issued an ultimatum to the EU, stating: if the citizens of his country will not be granted a visa-free regime, Ankara cancels the agreement on the admission of refugees from the Middle East and North Africa who invaded Europe.


The head of the Turkish foreign Ministry said on Sunday, July 31, in an interview with German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. Cavusoglu called extreme date of the abolition of visas in mid-October of the current year, says news Agency AP.

In the framework of the concluded in the spring of this year of the agreement, the EU will return to Turkey of illegal migrants arriving into Greece through the Aegean sea – according to the agreement between Brussels and Ankara. In response, the EU agreed legally to make Turkey Syrian refugees, and to ensure the needs of migrants in the Turkish territory to allocate up to 6 billion euros.

Integral part of the agreement between Brussels and Ankara has become a visa-free regime with Turkey, which will be implemented by July 2016, for which the Turkish authorities had to perform 72 the conditions set before them by the European Commission.

However, European politicians have repeatedly stated that these requirements are still not met, and the abolition of visas is not possible.

In particular, the EU seeks to change the Turkish law against terrorism, as in the current version it can be used against the opposition and critical of the government journalists.

    Im Streit um die EU-Visafreiheit für Türken sieht der CDU-Bundestagsabgeordnete Wolfgang Bosbach die Regierung in Ankara in der Pflicht. "Die Voraussetzungen dafür muss die Türkei schaffen. Es gibt 72 Bedingungen, die die Türkei erfüllen muss, dazu gehört unter anderem die Änderung der Antiterrorgesetze in der Türkei", sagte der Innenexperte im ZDF-Morgenmagazin. Tue sie dies nicht, dann werde es auch keine Visafreiheit geben.

    Die Türkei hatte zuvor verlangt, von der Europäischen Union ultimativ bis spätestens Oktober die zugesagte Visumfreiheit für ihre Bürger zu erhalten. Andernfalls will die islamisch-konservative Regierung das Flüchtlingsabkommen mit der EU aufkündigen, wie Außenminister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu der Frankfurter Allgemeinen Zeitung sagte....zeit.de
