Clinton, Not Feeling Well, Abruptly Leaves 9/11 Anniversary Ceremony

U.S. Democratic presidential contender Hillary Clinton, not feeling well, abruptly left a New York ceremony Sunday commemorating the 15th anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attacks, but her campaign later said she was "feeling much better."

The campaign said she was feeling "overheated" at the Ground Zero event at the site where al-Qaida terrorists on September 11, 2001 smashed two jetliners into the twin towers of the World Trade Center, toppling them both and killing nearly 3,000 people.

A campaign spokesman said she had attended the ceremony for 90 minutes "to pay her respects and greet some of the families of the fallen." But when she felt overheated, her Secret Service detail transported the 68-year-old candidate to her daughter Chelsea's New York apartment.

A couple hours later, Clinton left her daughter's residence, hugged a child, waved to bystanders and then departed in her motorcade.

"I'm feeling great, it's a beautiful day in New York," Clinton said as she left.

A video posted on Twitter showed Clinton, a former U.S. secretary of state, stumbling off a street curb as she left the 9/11 ceremony, her knees buckling as aides helped her into a van. While she was at the ceremony, it was warm and humid.

Clinton's opponent in the November presidential election, Republican Donald Trump, also attended the event, but both candidates suspended their normal campaign rallies and speeches on the anniversary of what was the worst attack on U.S. soil since the Japanese bombing at Pearl Harbor at the outset of World War Two.

Trump, a real estate mogul seeking his first elected office, and some of his supporters have claimed that Clinton is not healthy, allegations her campaign has rebuffed.

The 70-year-old Trump late last year released a letter from a physician of his claiming that the candidate would be "the healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency." But the doctor more recently acknowledged that he dashed off the note in five minutes while a Trump campaign limousine waited to pick it up.
