Tel Abyad is a Syrian border town located in the province of Raqqa which us currently being held by the Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) forces. Up until recently, the Kurds entrenched in the city were fearing a possible attack by the Turkish-backed militants, but now it appears that they received a significant boost to their confidence as US flags suddenly appeared in various locations throughout the settlement.

"Ankara’s goal is to capture Tel Abyad under the pretense of conducting a campaign to liberate Raqqa from Daesh. We informed our US allies about this development. Following that, a US military representative visited our town and ordered the raising of American flags in all strategic locations to prevent the incursion by Turkish forces," he said.

Meanwhile, Pentagon spokesman Peter Cook claimed during a press conference that his agency was unaware of this operation and is currently attempting to get to the bottom of things.
