Ankara would respond if developments in Mosul lead to negative consequences: Turkey joined air strikes in Mosul

Turkey has joined air strikes by the U.S.-led coalition during the operation to retake Mosul from ISIS/ISIL, Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım said on Oct. 18.

“Our Air Forces have also participated in air interventions in Mosul,” Yıldırım said.

He added that Turkey would do "everything necessary" against all kinds of threats and did not need permission from others.

Yıldırım also stressed that Ankara would respond if developments in Mosul lead to negative consequences against Turkey.

Turkey’s air force has been involved in coalition airstrikes on the Iraqi city of Mosul, part of the US-backed operation to flush out Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL), Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said on Tuesday. Turkey has been locked in a row with Baghdad about the presence of its troops at the Bashiqa camp in northern Iraq and over who should take part in the US-backed assault on Mosul. Turkey has trained up to 3,000 forces taking part but is concerned the operation could stoke sectarian tensions. (Reuters)
