China says anti-terrorism cooperation should follow international law

China on Monday said international anti-terrorism cooperation should follow international law and basic norms and principles of international relations.

"No domestic law shall be above international law," Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said at a daily press briefing in response to a question concerning the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act (JASTA) recently passed by the U.S. Congress.

China maintains that international anti-terrorism cooperation should allow the United Nations the leading role, accord with the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations, and follow international law and basic norms of international relations, including the doctrine of sovereignty equality, he said.

China is firmly against all kinds of terrorism and supports international anti-terrorism cooperation, Geng said, adding that terrorism should not be linked to particular nations, ethnicities or religions.

The U.S. Congress voted to override President Barack Obama's veto of the bill, which allows families of victims of the Sept. 11 terror attacks to sue Saudi Arabia.
