US forces in Afghanistan stand ready to aid Afghan partners in the city of Kunduz, which came under a Taliban attack, NATO-led Resolute Support mission said in a statement on Monday.
According to Afghan Khaama news agency, Taliban insurgents mounted a coordinated offensive on the northern city of Kunduz overnight. "US enablers, including air power, are in position and prepared to assist in Kunduz as needed," the mission stated in a Twitter message.
The NATO mission has previously stated that fighting in Kunduz was "sporadic" and there was no evidence that the attack was "significant."
Afghanistan is in a state of political and social turmoil, with government forces fighting the continuing Taliban insurgency, while Daesh, outlawed in Russia, has also expanded their activities both in the country and in neighboring states.
