Andrey Karlov, Russia's ambassador to Ankara, reportedly died from wounds sustained after a gunman opened fire at an art exhibition Monday.
The unnamed attacker shouted out "Aleppo" and "revenge" as he fired, an eyewitness said.
"When the ambassador was delivering a speech, a tall man wearing a suit fired into the air first and then took aim at the ambassador," Hasim Kilic, a correspondent for the daily Hurriyet, told AFP.
"He said something about 'Aleppo' and 'revenge'." Other witnesses said he shouted "we die in Aleppo, you die here" and "so long as those places are not secure, you won't taste security yourselves."
