He made his comments as the Obama administration and the Israeli government continue to voice differences on how to advance the peace process with the Palestinians.
Last week the United States did not use its veto to prevent a UN Security Council resolution being passed demanding a halt to Israeli settlement building on occupied Palestinian land.
Mr Trump criticised the action and said things would be different when he takes office on 20 January.
