Venezuela opposition abandons Vatican-brokered talks, proposes new dialogue

The Venezuelan opposition alliance announced Thursday that it would be definitively abandoning Vatican-brokered talks with the government, but members of that coalition later told EFE it would present a proposal for a fresh dialogue process with new mediators.

After announcing it would no longer participate in talks that had begun in late October under the auspices of the Union of South American Nations and the Vatican, the Democratic Unity Roundtable (MUD) said it had agreed to propose a new negotiations process under a different format.
